I don't have much experience in actually trying to have dials cleaned, and I would not even attempt to do this myself, but I have seen a range of messes that have resulted from attempts to do so. often, the dial seems worse for the attempt at cleaning it.

I'm really not sure what a top professional could accomplish, or what modern technology may offer, but I would proceed with extreme caution in having anyone touch the dial.
