Hello there,
I have a question about Heuer Monaco Serial numbers.
I am, generally speaking, a Rolex watch collector, however I have recently acquired a Heuer Monaco 1133G, black on grey, with a serial number 160,xxx. Based on what I have read about Heuer Monacos i would assume it was manufactured at the very end of 1969 or beginning of 1970.
Now, my question is, were the Monaco serial numbers assigned separately from other Heuer references? I have recently come across a Heuer Monaco watch reference 73633G with a serial number of 165,5xx manufactured in end of 1973. If all Heuers were numbered consecutively that would suggest Heuer only manufactured about 5.000 watches in four years, that is impossible.
Now, to make things insane, I, again recently, come across two Heuer Monaco ref 1133 carrying the serial numbers of 251,xxx and 252,xxx and the sellers were stating they were manufactured in 1973-4.
How is this possible? Were they perhaps service cases?
From what i was told Heuer only produced 3,500-4,000of all variants of ref 1133, would that be correct?
Thank you so much, any input would be greatly appreciated.
Tom,
