Vintage Heuer Discussion Forum
The place for discussing 1930-1985 Heuer wristwatches, chronographs and dash-mounted timepieces. Online since May 2003.
PS: The only thing I would suggest is to search for a white outer ring (with the 1/5 seconds scale), which has gone missing on your example.
Compare with this photo:
The photo also demonstrates what happens when a watch case is polished: The sharp edges (like the ones on your watch) will be lost forever.
: Although it will not reduce the pain of your loss, your Dad has
: left you a very special timepiece. It is a 2nd execution Heuer
: Carrera 12, ref. 2447 NST (black dial with white subdials and
: Tachymeter scale). This alone is a rare watch, but the Volvo
: logo makes it extra special.
: I can only confirm the advice given by GMT and John: Please do not
: have any of the original parts replaced (even if they look a bit
: patinated), and NEVER have the case polished. Not only would it
: remove the traces of your Dad's ownership, but it would reduce
: the value of your watch siginficantly.
: Wear it in good health,
