A Terrible Loss / Some Memories
In Response To: Derek Ziglar has passed away ()

I will write more later, when I have gathered some thoughts, and when time permits, but here are a few memories.

I knew Derek from the Atlanta years, and through his role in the creation of OnTheDash. We would meet for breakfast, and would sketch the design elements of OnTheDash on our napkins [in the end, his napkin always looked much better than mine!!]

He did much of the technical work on OnTheDash, and was always careful to point out that he would not build the site, but would teach me, and give me the tools, so that I could have the satisfaction of building the site myself. He said that he could build the website himself; better yet, he give me some pieces of Lego, so that I could build it myself; or, even better, he could teach me to make the pieces of Lego, so that the site would have no limits. He loved to help people, but even more he found satisfaction in teaching people to create things on their own.

In addition to the family that he loved so much, Derek enjoyed his watches (usually Omegas), his animals (mainly dogs and horses), and a Porsche 914 that survived an Atlanta tornado several years ago.

As much as we all enjoy this site, it was Derek who was responsible for creating it and who deserved our thanks.

I will write more later, but these are a few of the more powerful memories.

Jeff
