Since the America's Cup hasn't been around long enough for any endurance reports, I suggest you consider the durability of other 18K white gold jewelry you may have had experience with.
I've had my America's Cup for three months and wear it daily. It's my beater watch and since I have a home cleaning business I wear it while, well...cleaning! I have accumulated a scratch or two on the case side but so far, nothing has managed to appear on the bezel itself. Other than wiping it too much with an abrasive cleaner, I can't imagine the fact that it's 18K gold instead of stainless contributing to "wear" in any meaningfull way. If you bash it hard enough to scratch the gold, it would probably scratch if it was stainless also, maybe not as deep?!
Hope thais helped.
P.S. Life is way short...buy it, enjoy it, if it scratches, have it buffed out if ya can't bear to look at it. I've learned to look at scratches on my watch in sort of the same way women think of dragging a mink coat on the ground behind them.
