This is the fake watch you guys mentioned below. I've just added it to the
zOwie Rogues Gallery of Fakes. But I thought you folks might like to see a larger picture and the full analysis.
This is one of the more colossally bungled attempts at counterfeiting a Seamaster Professional. They got a number of features right, but what they didn't, they really blew it on.
- Watch has chronograph pusher buttons, but no chronograph features!
- Has a tachymeter scale on outer edge of dial. Not only a wrong detail for a real Seamaster -- but totally meaningless on a non-chronograph watch.
- Missing the helium relief value at the 11 o'clock position.
- The bezel is rotated to hide the fact that the dial is on crooked! (This was more obvious in on of the other pictures the seller included.)
- The see-through back is also a dead giveaway, since no Seamaster Professionals (except the extremely rare Platinum Skeleton version) have ever had them.
- Simplified bracelet with the older type of clasp from the pre-Bond Seamaster.
- Wave pattern not bad, but too large.
- Lettering on dial both smudged and excessively large.
And the truly scary part? This watch sold for $100 on an online auction! Even if I wanted to buy a fake, I would avoid one this goofy!
