Got my question answered by the pros at Omega. The jumping of the second hand is designed to conserve energy. With the completion of each minute, the electronic circuit performs a correcting function which can be observed by the repeat jumping of the second hand. The correcting step will occur at the point where the time had been manually set.

: I just purchased an Omegamatic Quartz Seamaster(kinetic?) I
: just noticed the second hand flutters wherever i set the
: crown when adjusting the time. I have tried to reach
: someone at Omega about this, but can't get hold of anyone.
: I did go back to the dealer, and looked at the display and
: it does the same thing. Also, how do i go about winding
: watch - which direction do i turn crown? The watch has kept
: very good time, except i one nite i checked the time to our
: local time service and it was exact. I noticed the next
: evening before going to bed the time was of 2 sec. Reset,
: and now keeping excellent time. All i can think of is that
: i was real sick and slept for 1 1/2 days. Now, before going
: to bed i move wrist for several seconds to ensure
: sufficient energy in place. Does this make sense? Is my
: watch ok?
