I don't blame you...
In Response To: Re: SMP Fogged Crystal ()

...for being upset, I would be too! But sometimes these things just happen. For future reference though, I would not take my watch to my "authorized" dealer. I don't think the watchmaker there knows what he's doing to tell you the truth.

I phoned around to various places and found a place here in Vancouver where the watchmaker actually "knows" what he's doing, and had my vintage Seamaster restored there. Beautiful job! Don't just trust that some jewellery shop where you bought it knows anything!

Generally the sales people themselves are ignorant about watches and 9/10 times the on-premises watchmaker knows squat either. If you get the runaround from your people, get the watch the hell out of there, and take it somewhere where they know what they're doing. The reality is that you probably know more about your watch than they do!

You probably have at least one shop in your town that deals in extreme upper-end watches such as Patek and so on. Generally their watchmaker is very good. I'd start somewhere like that. But again, if you feel like you're getting the runaround, and the people don't seem to know what they're saying, get your watch the HELL out of there!

Best regards,

Dave
