I have just purchased my father a belated father’s day gift. A speedmaster day date, steel. It is a new from an authorized dealer (Marshall Fields and Co), they gave me a new warranty card that was not filled out, they also gave me the wrong seamater instruction book, and the watch had a slight ding. Now that I have read over this great site, I wanted to voice my concerns to follow:
1) Is there suppose to be any notches on the back case to unwind it, like on the seamaster and other models.
2) The serial is on the back case and not on the horn, is this ok?
3) How do you set the date, specifically the DAY!!! Since I have the wrong book I don’t know the procedures to set the watch. I have a brietling and know it can damage them if you set the date with the hour at some above numbers.
4) Should I get the correct book and have the co put the numbers on the international warranty card, or is it something I can replace later?
The only reason the 4th Q is important, is that my dad is a avid pen collector, and I am persuasively hinting that he will either switch to watches or supplement his collecting "fetish" to something we can both enjoy. Also it will be a pain to drive back to the store.
Your thanks ahead of time
