What's the "button" at 10 o'clock on my Speed.?

Can someone let me know what this small button looking thing at the 10 o'clock marker on the case of my Speedmaster Day/Date (ref. 3523.80)does? It looks like I could press it by using a ballpoint pen, but I'm reluctant to do so without knowing what it does. Does it release the caseback? Set the small 24 hour hand? Launch missiles? If one of you knows, I'd appreciate being enlightened. Thanks,
