Hi....no big secret here. What i do at the jewelry store is this. When you depress one side.....angle the band to put friction on the pin and keep it in the down position. While maintaining the side pressure.....go at the other end (i use a small jewelers's screwdriver for this) and often the band will release sideways completely. Sometimes you have to go back and forth a few times, but this will usually do the trick.
