: I have read some rumors on this and the timezone discussion
: boards that there will be some changes in models and
: designs in the 2000 year including black dial seamaster
: pro's and seamaster movements with a co-axial thingamabob.
I have word direct from Omega on the black dial Seamasters. Also that there will be more ladies models of the Seamaster.
This is pure speculation, but I would like to see a ladies GMT added to the line.
The rumor of the co-ax Seamaster was reported by someone listening to a jewelry store employee -- a type of person that I have found more than occasionally are speaking out their asses to sound authoritative and important.
I would like to see a co-ax Seamaster, too. But I know of no official confirmation or even hint toward such a watch.
: Any reason why omega would make new models?
Yes, it is called competition and innovation. Just because Rolex is still happy with most of the same models that they introduced decades ago does not mean that other watchmakers are interested in sitting on their laurels.
Omega is working hard to earn back the even higher regard their watches had back up through the 1960's.
: How 'bout the potential for a big price slash on existing
: models when the new ones come out??......
Unlikely. For watchmakers like Omega, each year new models are added to the collection and certain older models may be discontinued. This is not a high volume consumer good like VCRs and cheap autos that they have fire sale clearances on the old ones when newer ones are introduced. These are companies building classics, not disposables or commodity items.
