Everything, which does not really cooks meet
well done is no problem for a proper sealing.
(getting red as a lobster is not real cooking :-)
They will never dissolve from water or soap.
Only at boiling temperatures (or higher)
some sealing materials will swell up.

Again, for a proper sealing in a correct
mounted - and constructed - housing: no problem.
But every organic material ages. Let it test
regularly and after some years let them be
replaced (the sealings, not the ... ;-).
