: Hi Guys, I need a bit of help. I am contemplating buying an
: older Seamaster in 14KYG. I am unfamiliar with the older
: ones and am curious how I can determine the age, caliber
: and if it is solid gold or simply gold-filled. Should there
: be any indications on the casing (externally)?

By law, all gold should be labeled, such as 14K or 18K. This designation must be on the gold part of the watch. So you won't always find it on the back if the watch does not have a gold back. Sometimes there is more information inside the back. I believe gold filled should also have a GF designation -- but I am not positive on the rules for that.

Claiber can be determined by opening the back and reading the caliber number off the movement. While you have it open, write down the serial number. Send the caliber and serial number to info@omega.ch and ask them for the production date and any other info on the watch. Omega is good about replying in 1-4 days on such requests.
