If the watch is new there will probably be a break in period of a few weeks to a few months. Not every watch seems to need a break in period. My own experiences, and the experience of many others seems to indicate the SMP movement will tend to slow down a bit during break in.
The performance of mechanical watches are subject to movement and gravity. In different positions, the performance can and will differ. With good, well regulated, watch movements the differences between the 6 standard COSC postions will be small. COSC standards are +6 to -4 seconds/day.
While there are six general positions, there are also an infinite number of other positions that can affect performance. Each can and ususally will yield slightly different results.
The six standard positions are:
1. Crown right (like a clock on the wall.
2. Crown left (like an upside down clock on the wall
3. Face up (laying on its back)
4. Face down (laying on the crystal)
5. Crown up (like a clock on the wall with the 3 o'clock position where the 12 should be.
6. Crown down (like a clock on the wall with the 9 o'clock position where the 12 should be.
My SMP runs around 2 seconds fast per day when I wear it 24/7. Through experimenting I found it runs around -5 seconds a day in the the crown right position. When I normally wear my watch around 16 hours per day, it gains around 1.5 seconds. When I place it crown right over night for around 8 hours, it loses approx. 1.5 seconds. The result of this practice is my SMP was last set 2 months ago and it is currently less than 2 seconds off. The results for other SMP can and probably will be different. You'll have to experiment.
When wearing your watch 24/7, as you've done recently, the results you're seeing is more or less the average of all the positional differences since your arm is constantly shifting position during the day and even at night. You're results are obviously very good, but you want excellent. If you were to monitor the results in each of the various positions I mentioned above (usually for 24 hours with the watch fully wound) you might see differences between some positions of a few seconds or more.
