Newbie Question

Hello everyone,
this is my first post. I just bought a Day Date Speedmaster,

I love the watch, however, the manual leaves much to be desired.

My question is, the dial on the far left, markings of 3,6...24 with 2 hands one sweeping. What is that? what is it trying to tell me?

I feel silly asking the question, yet I must know!!
