When I received my Seamaster (it was a gift), I noticed that it was the quartz model. I was happy to have it, but when asked if it was the one I wanted I had to say, "No I wanted the automatic (2531.80)". We sent it back and the store ordered the correct watch.

In the mean time, I noticed that the second hand on the quartz model did not jump the same distance each time. This doesn't mean it isn't accurate, in fact, the quartz is actually more acutate than the automatic. It did bother me that the second hand did this though. I think the irratic movement of the quartz second hand is because the distance the quartz crystal expands and contracts isn't always the same (just a wild guess).

The automatic second hand has a smooth sweep motion which I like much better. Also, I just like the fact that inside my watch are finely crafted parts all working together to tell me the time!
