Rather comedic comentary, and I agree, the world has too many "timekeepers" with nobody paying any attention to how "off" they are.
But, do realize that there are some people/systems that do need correct, coordinated time. Among them: Financial markets, air traffic control, radio/TV broadcasters, electrical grid control, to name a few.
Interesting to note that the history of calender development and timekeeping is very linked to religious history. If you like this sort of stuff, read The Discoverers, by Daniel Borstin.
