Why?!? Why?!? ...........

: ... I agree with everything you say, Daniel.
: And I wonder why you buy Omegas when cheaper
: watches would do what you want perfectly
: well...

Actually, they wouldn't do what I want perfectly well. What I want is to have personal items that I can fall in love with... not just use. My heart could never belong to a G-Shock. Why? Because I like my time kept mechanically. It's purely emotional, as I'm sure we all realize. It seems to me that the level of technology in an object is inversely proportional to the level of fondness that a person can have for it. Example: Computers? No. Particle Accelerators? No. Vintage automobiles? Oh, Yes. Mechanical timepieces? You betcha! How many people who wear $2000 wristwatches (regardless of movement type) do so because they want to know the time? I would guess, none of us. We've pretty much established that a $20 radio-synchronized wristwatch outdoes everything else out there for accurate timekeeping. We buy them because we have a certain sense of style and personality... because we have good taste. Why drive a '67 Mustang, Camaro, or vintage Ferrari GTO, when a Honda Insight or Geo metro can out-do them all for all 'practical' purposes? Why purchase expertly mortised or dovetailed solid wood furniture, when veneers, plywood, particle-board, or even steel tubing will do the job just as well and for far cheaper?
