please help

i have a problem i have the omega gmt seamaster. im having a problem understanding the diff. etween automatic and manual. i understood that automatic relies on movement and manual just on winding it. why is it that if i wind my watch but dont use it for a day and a half it stops. when i sometimes dont wind my watch for a couple of days but have it on me and it doesnt stop. does manual rely on some movement? pleae help b/c im beginning to think watch is defective. thanks alot robert.
