Re: Quartz vs. Automatic
: I recently asked Santa for an Automatic Seamaster Professional
: Diver (full size). I'm pretty excited about it, but I'm
: wondering if I should have asked for the quartz. If quartz
: is so accurate why go with the automatic? I guess the idea
: is you don't have to change a battery ever and deal with
: getting the watch repressurized and serviced each time. And
: I suppose an automatic watch is a more elegant and valued
: piece of machinery. Those are the factors behind my
: decision. But I have a quartz Heuer and the thing has been
: running perfectly for years with seriously high accuracy. I
: kind of like the accuracy and if I only have to replace the
: batter once every 3 or 4 years that is not bad. What do you
: people think?
Hi Dave, I think you made the right choice. You didn't say if you were a diver or not, but if you were a diver(I'm not,BTW)you'd want a dive watch which,I'm told ,should only be auto for safetys sake in timing dives. Even if you're not a diver and simply want the watch for everyday wear it still makes sense to have a watch which will have an appeal to those for whom it was supposedly made. A dead battery is no big deal above sea level but quite a different matter below. Frankly, I don't know why a watch marketed as a dive tool would be offered in quartz OR date. You've selected a watch without compromise. Merry Christmas! JoeS
