The very first part is the end of the clasp itself, which is a fixed part. The next piece--at least as they come from the factory--is a half link that is removable and should work exactly like the other pins.
Make sure you don't lose the small locking collars that can fall out when you open the links! If your links open too easily, these may already have been lost in a previous sizing effort.
