: I bought my first Omega SMP 2531.80 auto about
: 4 months ago and out of the box I was
: loosing about 2 to 3 seconds a day. I just
: checked it this week and after 7 days it is
: 1 second fast!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I could not be
: happier with choosing the auto over quartz.
I read another article here on Chronocentric that explained that. It said that comparing the day to day gain/loss of a quartz against an automatic is not a valid test. It said that you need to allow each watch to go without a reset for several weeks, maybe a month, then compare. Allegedly a quartz watch that loses .10 seconds a day (hypothetically) will likely lose the same amount each consecutive day without variance. However, an automatic watch might gain a second one day, lose 2 seconds the next and gain or lose nothing on day three. Gravity and the overall activity of the wearer as well as the position the watch is layed on the bedside table at night are all factors that effect the daily gain/loss of the automatic movement. Those factors change from day to day. Therefore, to be fair to both watches, they need a longer period of time without being reset to compare them against each other.
