: STF,
I have had my SMP mid size AUTO for about 10 days now. Checking the accuracy, I'm 3 seconds fast since Monday AM (4 full days),and that may be the new break-in. Don't let anyone tell you their the same! Buying a quartz for your first "good" watch, will be disappointing, even if your the only one who cares. Save the quartz purchase for later, or just buy a Pulsar or Seiko now, and spend the big bucks when having perfect time is less important than workmanship.
