Re: Watch Winder Question
In Response To: Watch Winder Question ()

Bill, a watch winder basically can be adjusted so that it turns slowly enough to keep an automatic watch approx 80-90% fully wound. This is to prevent the watch from being overwound, even though most modern watches have a failsafe mechanism to prevent this from happening.

You just clamp your watch onto the wheel of the winder and turn it on. The watch begins to turn slowly like a turkey in an oven. Bad analogy, but anyway, the rotor inside the watch stays pointing down thanks to gravity and this process slowly winds the watch.

Two D cell batteries should keep the machine running for approx 6-8 months.

I have often thought about building a winder myself, but I'm not that technically minded. But I suppose it could be done. The big trick would be to make it turn slowly enough.

Hope this helps.
