I want to thank everyone for all your suggestions. Unfortunately, the diver's clasp is already set out to the widest limit, so that alternative is a no-go. On the bright side, I do want to report that although rubber IS funny in that it always bounces back after stretching, actually rubber bounces back a TEENSY bit less each time you stretch it. After a week of careful and diligent work, the band now feels snug instead of tight, and I'm confident that I'll get it to where the fit is perfect. Thanks to all!
