No. The dealer that violates their Authoriszed Dealer Agreement by selling off the watches to the unauthorized dealers are worried abouyt reprisals from Omega for violating their contracts. So they supposedly do this to make it harder for Omega to trace the watches back to the source.

But that is nonsense anyway, since there is a second copy of the serial number inside the watch. So I have no idea who they are really fooling.
