: Some advice needed...What are the advantages of
: buying through an Authorised Dealer? - Yes I
: know that you'll get the 12 month Omega
: Warranty but what else do you get? Do these
: watches really have such a high incidence
: rate of mechanical problems within the first
: 12 months? I suspect not so, is the 12
: months really justification for paying so
: much more. Yesterday I paid a visit to my
: local Authorised dealer (confirmed) and was
: told the price of a complete 'overhall' for
: a SMP (about 1/7 the cost of the watch).
: Taking this into account I could have two
: and a half of these 'overhalls' in the first
: 12 months before reaching the authorised
: purchase price if I were to go ahead and buy
: a 'Grey Market watch' from the shop down the
: road....and yes the Grey market watch has
: the serial numbers. Can someone please help
: me decide on the pros and cons - the
: authorised dealer is about 40 - 45%, perhaps
: I'm missing something and the risks of
: repairs etc are more likely with the watch
: than I had thought regardless of it being
: 'Authorised' or 'Grey Market'.
The Omega warranty has been extended to 2 years now for all watches purchased after January 1, 2002 and 3 years for, I believe, the watches with the coaxial movements. Authorized dealers are allowed to give discounts off the list price and some dealers do offer discounts that are competitive to grey market dealers.
