: As a newbie, I am wondering if it common
: practice for used watch dealers not to
: disclose the serial number of a watch prior
: to purchase? Can someone enlighten me?
The most important part is that is has a valid serial number. It is not all that common to give out the complete serial number prior to a used watch purchase -- though some sellers have no problem with it.
Often, asking such minute detail of the seller shows that you are going to be a tedious buyer to work with. They tend to think if you are fretting over the serial number, what other trivialities will you be hassling them over during and after the sale. Even the most helpful sellers seldom have the time or interest to hand-hold an unsure buyer through a laborious decision process or requests for details that really shouldn't be needed for you to decide whether to buy what they are selling.
I guess the real issue is what are you wanting the serial number for? Most people just request the seller guarantee the authenticity of the piece and leave it at that.
