Re: APNEA! terrible name
In Response To: APNEA! terrible name ()

Apnea means free diving indeed. More precisely it is a voluntary or involuntary interuption of the breathing process.

I am (or was shall I say: i am a bit unfit these days...)a free diver. My personal record was 5 minutes and I used to able to go down to 45 meter free diving.

The world record now stands just below 8 minutes. In terms of depth last time I check people was below the 150 meters mark.

From a pure technical point of view this watch is very useful: you do not have a lot of time to look at you watch when you are free-diving and the red dot will really make it easy. Also there is not that many watches that have a chrono you can use down to 300 meters.

Jacques Mayol who I beleive helped developed this watch was regarded (he died recently) as the god of the free divers: he was the first champoin to go below 100 meters a depth that was regarded by the scientific community as impossible to break.

If some of you are interested in the story of free diving pleas echeck the movie called "the big blue" or Le grand bleu in french.

Hope this help.
