The only thing I can conjecture is that there were no native (American) English speakers at the marketing "focus group" meetings when Omega was conceptualizing this watch. The REAL meanings of words do NOT matter in marketing. What matters is the CONNOTATION, or the "feel" of the word.
I find this poor choice particularly ironic in light of the other recent naming choice, which is so apt, "Aqua Terra."
