SMP Hand/Dial Styles?

Not having much knowledge of earlier Omega offerings, I am wondering:

I understand the sword-style hands of the Seamaster line is fairly new (circa 2000?). Was the Seamaster GMT once produced with the skeleton-style hands and submariner-style dial? Or am I completely wrong about this.

Also, is it true that the skeleton hands are somewhat difficult to read at night? Is the luminous material along the narrow edges of the skeleton hands evenly applied, rendering a consistent glow along the hands? Some photos have left me wondering.
