I only have an alarm clock to wake me up, when checking the time I use my SMP Bond w/ sword hands and they are plenty easy to read, a strategy I have is when I'm showering before I go to bed I focus my desk lamp down on my watches face for the 10 or so minutes so when I'm in bed its as bright as can be and very easy to read.
