X-33...stem collapse

I understand older X-33s may have a problem with a collapsing stem and this problem was corrected by later versions of the X-33 the newly released X-33.

My questions are:

How does the stem collapse. What does this mean.

Are later versions of the old X-33 fixed or modified to prevent this problem. Is there a S/N cut-in of oldversion X-33s that were so modified.

How is this problem corrected in the new version of the X-33.

The reason I ask is that I have an opportunity to purchase either a BNIB older version or the new version (at additional cost)

Which would you pick?

Thanks
AL P
