zOwie Omega Discussion Forum

They don't keep track

Omega doesn't keep track of date of sale of its watches.

There are two reasons an Authorized Dealer may leave the date off a warranty card when sold. One is more usefull than the other in my opinion.

1. The obvious reason is to give the customer "additional" warranty time. With Omega now having a standard 2-Year Warranty, and 3-Year Warranty on Co-Axials, I see this as little value.

2. IMHO, the best reason is a matter of customer accomodation. If a Dealer sells you a watch, you take it home, and a few days after wearing it, you find it's not running properly. If he dated the warranty card, your watch must be sent into the Factory Service Center to be repaired under Warranty. This can take weeks. Quite a bummer to be without your new watch for that long, which you plunk down a significant amount of money for. The Dealers don't have "Spare" Warranty Cards laying around, and they are very difficult to get replaced.

If the Dealer left the date blank, the Dealer can just swap the watch with another in inventory (or order one), and send the original watch back to Omega as Defective to let them deal with.
