I also had a similar idea to you , I.E. buy the Omega in SA whilst on holiday from the UK as it may be cheaper. As it turned out the Omega I was after (an Automatic 38mm AT) was significantly more expensive even with the favourable exchange rate at the time and the potential VAT refund. Im talking nearly double the price.
This may have only been for this model but you should check out the prices prior to making the purchase.
There are loads of Omega dealers in SA but I believe they all get their stock from a central distribution agent located in JHB.
