Since you references the 'P' word twice, clearly the perception this watch will create is important to you. In that case forget the Omega. Although I think it just as good as the Rolex, few people will notice or recognize it.
Unfortunately, most of the people who would recognize a Rolex Submariner will immediately question whether your's was a fake or not.
Basically, get what you want and what pleases you. True prestige comes from your accomplishments not from what you wear.
Having said that go try both on. The Rolex is a wonderful watch that is let down by a cheap, almost flimsy bracelet. Discounts of more than 5-10% are rare. The watch is more often sold with no discount. Seamasters can be readily had at 30-35% off list. Conseqently, you can get 2 1/2 to 3 Omegas for the price of a Sub. The Sub, as nice as it is, is grossly over priced.
