Re: Any Omega collectors also Rolex collectors?

: It seems to me like the majority of people who
: collect Omega don't collect Rolex, its sort
: of like a New York Yankees vs Boston Red
: Socks thing, your either on one side or the
: other.

: However I collect, and love both. I was
: wondering if anyone else here collects both?

: To add my input into the famous Rolex vs Omega
: debate, I think they are too different to
: compare and both are very prestigious Swiss
: watch brands.

: BTW- Collection pics are always welcome, I can
: never get enough!

I can't say I collect both now, but I used to be a Rolex collector and (very) small-time dealer. I took about 7 years "off" from watches/horology altogether and then slowly got hooked on Omega while I was in grad. school.

I only have one SMP now, and want another (AT? GMT?), but now that I know more about watches due to the explosion of info. avail. through the internet, I find Rolex too "common" and too "stuck in a design rut". From everything I have heard from retailers, small and large, "Rolex Inc." is a complete pain in the a** to deal with from a business standpoint.

Rolex may be more prestigious, but only to NON-watch officianados. Any serious watch enthusiast knows that if you buy Rolex, you are paying a premium for their name only.
