: Two questions: 1. Is there any benefit to
: buying an Omega from an offical dealer over
: buying one online at discount?

Read the section on GRAY MARKET WATCHES in the CONSUMER ZONE on this site for a lengthy description of the issues involved.

: I would like something that will
: take a beating without showing it so much.
: Is Omega the way to go? Thanks.

You appear to have an unreasonable expectation here. Luxury watches are FINE JEWELRY, not combat-hardened, abusable-without-consequences tools. If you want that, you need to be looking at a Casio G-Shock.

Omega watches hold up very well. But any jewelry that is worn daily WILL get scratched. There is no way to stop that and spending more money on luxury products will NOT buy you something indestructible or abuse-proof.
