I have a titanium model (blue dial and bezel) I bought in May 99, and like it very much indeed.
Before I purchased it, I looked into a number of other chronograph models. Since I own another Omega auto, it was the SMC I originally wanted, but changed my mind a number of times.
Other makes I considered were the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronograph, Hublot Navy Chronograph, IWC Fleigerchronograph, GP Tour de France 250 GT, and Chopard Mille Miglia [I would still love a Breguet Type XX, but can't afford it!]
After many considerations, what turned me back to the Omega was the incredible water resistance without the hassle of screw-down pushers, the C.O.S.C. rating (which I know is much less than its cracked up to be, but if I'm spending the big bucks, better to have it, at least that way Rolex and Tag owners could not get over on me!), and also the fact that it used a polished and hand finished 7750, rather than a timing movement main plate and a chronograph module. This last point I think affects the durability and ease of repair of the OSMPC compared with, say the UN, or the Hublot.
All in all, the watch keeps very good time, and since I wear it all the time, has held up very well so far. I am glad I purchased the titanium model, since the watch IS very large, and the steel version's weight was just too much.
If you enjoy your watch half as much as I enjoy mine, you should be pleased.
