solid links are links that are one piece of solid metal, rather than links that are made of stainless steel that has been folded.
clearly a single piece of metal is more attractive than a folded one.
for an example of a folded link, just take a look at a cheaper type of watch. check out a seiko bracelet. i don't know if they are all folded metal, but mine is.
