Re: precision of SMP
In Response To: precision of SMP ()

My SMP settled in rather quickly to about +1 sec/day. Took a couple of months. (I wear it daily, and take it off at night.) In general I would advise against checking the watch's time daily, or even weekly, because a mechanical watch does not gain or lose an exact amount daily, and you can go crazy following it too closely.

I set my watch only when I have to change the date, every couple of months, and at that time, I calculate the difference and average it out over that period. It always cames out to about a second a day fast. Different watches give different results; don't expect yours to be exactly like mine.

As for fast versus slow, wouldn't you rather it run fast? That way you'd only be early by a few seconds, and never late! :)

Enjoy your new watch,
GeorgeT

: Hi there!

: I bougt a SMP (black/black, full-size,
: automatic) four month ago. It is a great
: watch in every aspect. Since then I've been
: reading this forum (and time-zone and omega
: addict). Great stuf here and lots of usefull
: information! Compliments!

: In the beginning my SMP ran 4 sec/day fast.
: During the night I take it off (crown-up).
: Recently I found that my SMP slowed down to
: 0,5 sec /day! I've read something about a
: settle-down period but didn't know that it
: could take four months? Are there others
: with the same experience?

: I was wondering if Omega on purpose sets there
: mechanisms fast hoping them to slow down, or
: is this just (a lucky) coincidence?
