I'm just getting back into reading this board regularly after a gap of a couple of months (great site, Derek, BTW, but I'm sure you're sick of hearing that!).
Anyway, all this talk of bracelets and links has got me wondering, what is the correct size for a watch bracelet? When I bought my full-size SMP about eighteen months ago, the store took great pains to measure my wrist with tapes and callipers, before adjusting the bracelet to suit. I tried it on, and back it went a couple of times until it was just so. This all took about an hour, IIRC.
Anyway, since then, I've always thought the watch was a little tight on me. In profile you could see the watch indenting the line of my wrist, and I would occasionally have difficulty slipping it off, requiring the wetsuit extension to be unlocked, especially if I was hot and clammy.
Having seen the way Pierce Brosnan wears his SMP in the current Bond movies (quite loose, with the watch able to slip up and down the wrist slightly in wear), I contacted my dealer, who was quite happy to readjust the bracelet again for me, even after all this time, replacing one half link that he had previously removed (which he did at no charge, BTW).
So my question is, what is the right way to have the bracelet? I recall a tailor once telling me that you shouldn't be able to get a finger between your head and a hat brim. Is this true of a wristwatch? What's the form here?
