That sticker is used by several brands not only Omega and it's been in use for many years now. When I bought a SMP in Jan 00, the sticker suggested replacement by Jan 04, so its end is near but to this day, it is still running on the original battery.
On their website, the 1538 calibre is supposed to have a power reserve of 27/36 months, but apparently this isn't accurate.
I also dislike the gradual date change mainly because I am used to all my other watches changing instantly after midnight. Anyway, this is compensated by the ability to move the hour hand independently without messing the minute and second hands and this really is a useful feature.
