Someone once told me not to waste money on an expensive suit or shoes because no-one but a true expert would notice the difference. It was much more important to have a decent pen (not a disposable biro) because everyone would recognise that.
This was my theory in buying my Omega. Before scanning the market (and this group of course) I didn't even know the difference and I suspect that most people won't either. And no-one will look closely enough at your watch to see if it is quartz or auto anyway.
So, if you are buying the watch for its "jewellery value" (which apparently is what you pay all the money for with an Omega) then why pay almost double the price for an automatic which, as has already been pointed out, needs to be worn all the time and doesn't keep such precise time? Go for quartz.
If , on the other hand, you are buying it because you are interested in the engineering miracle that keeps it going so accurately, then you have to get an automatic - because there ain't no miracle inside yer quartz. (But it looks pretty damn good from the outside.)
