Band Sizing: Should each side be equal?

Hi All! I am having a wonderful day because it's my first day of ownership of a brand spanking new Omega Seamaster Auto Bond watch! Here is my newbie question!

I had to have watch links taken out for the fit. I had 1 regular size link taken out and then 1 small one taken out. The jeweler took both of these out of the six o'clock side. As you can imagine the bracelet is much longer on the 12 o'clock side now and very short on the other.

The watch fits very well now but my father said that he would take it back in and have them replace 1 link on the six o'clock side and then take the same one out of the 12 o'clock side to make the two equal.

What do you guys think? Do you think both sides should be equal in length or does really matter as long as it fits well?
