Before purchasing my Omega SMP 2230.50, I also considered the Breitling Superocean, Colt Automatic and Rolex Submariner. Though I was impressed by the Breitling's 5000ft water resistant claim, I didn't feel it was as handsome as the Omega. To me, when I held both watches side by side, the Breitling just didn't look and feel as nice. In regards to the Rolex, which is the watch I'd always wanted since I was in high school...I just didn't feel it was worth three times the price of the SMP. What I recommend you do is visit a watch dealer and hold and feel each watch in person. Don't ask the dealer which watch he thinks is the best, because they'll only push his/her personal preference or which ever brand they make a better margin on. You'll know which one is for you.
