Re: Quartz vs Automatic
In Response To: Re: Quartz vs Automatic ()

: As I say in my article on the value of luxury
: watches: What it really boils down to is
: this: any wristwatch over US $200 is more
: jewellery than a timepiece.

This may be partially true in regard to mass produced, modern watches. Not all timepieces should be judged purely on their functionality, and there is always much more in a timepiece than just "jewellery value".

(I do apologize for my English)

Some of the "quartz lovers" will eventually shift into high grade stuff, and some will even evolve to appreciate JLC / Patek watches. The beauty of collecting is that there is no limit. Time of pocket watches and small quality clocks is yet to come; and even today we see steady increase in demand for ships chronometers and quality hand made, signed timepieces.

Who knows what the future will look like... Watch collecting is really still a novelty and trends and hot watches are "discovered" almost every day.
Very often it only takes article or two in collectors magazine or on the web and value of certain model drastically increases, literarily overnight.

With so much information freely available and abundance of www watch stock on offer, collecting
is better than ever and I enjoy it as never before!
