: I must really like them! After years of
: collecting Rolex watches (at least 10 or so
: I have bought and sold), I no longer have
: any. I have found Omega to be a better buy,
: and their quality to be just as good, not as
: good, or better depending upon which area.
: (eg better bracelets for Omega, better dials
: for Rolex). I now collect Omega,
: specifically I have 4 Omega 120m
: quartz(1990's models with straight hands,
: not skeleton), and an Omega midsize blk/blk
: SMP, also quartz.
: I did like the Rolex models I had (SUB, SD,
: Datejust, etc), but I found they were off
: 4-6 seconds a day. Even though it was within
: COSC specs, it really bugged me, since I
: like to have more accurate time (if you miss
: the first 10 seconds of CSI sometimes you
: miss too much).
: There has been much written about Automatic vs.
: Quartz, so I won't get into it, but quartz
: is the right choice for me. With my
: automatics, if I didn't wear them or put
: them on the winder, I had to reset them, and
: unscrewing the crown that often is never a
: good thing from a wear and tear point of
: view.
: One distinct advantage of the Seamaster quartz
: that I find to be a BIG advantage over the
: automatic is that you can move the hour hand
: without moving the minute hand or upsetting
: the second hand. This is VERY helpful for
: time zone changes, and daylight savings,
: without having to re-sync. The quartz is
: also a tad more resistant to shock, and I
: really tend to do everything with my
: watches, and don't want the added worry of
: harmoing the movement.
: Finally, a battery change is all a quartz watch
: really needs every 3-4 years. I can do it
: myself, and it only cost $1 for the battery!
: Thanks for your E.Mail. Iv'e never managed to own a Rolex, so can't compare.I agree, I don't see the point of spending good money on an auto if the timekeeping is not good. You may as well go and buy a Swatch watch.A quartz also avoids those regular expensive services. You'll have to let me know where to source those $1 batteries, not hat I'll need one for about three years. Regards, Vince
