: When a mechanical watch is new, all gears etc.
: are clean and freshly oiled, and hence, run
: very well. In order that the
: "average" time keeping of the
: watch is maintained during the period
: between service, it runs faster at the
: beginning, then slows down as it ages.
: Grease and oil breakdown, gears get dirty
: etc.

I don't know if my Seamaster Pro 2254.50 was really looking for a long period without service, because it was running +14 sec / day when new. I observed the running for over a month with some records and it was really stunning how accurately it was running the same +14 s all the time.

I had it serviced and included my recordings in to the package when shipped to the service. After addjustment the error is practically +- 1 sec / day. Last time when I addjusted the time was when changing back to normal time in the end of october. I'm at the moment exactly on time and the biggest values has been -7 s, + 10 seconds off from the real time.

Satisfied? YES.

And for the chrystal of the clock. It says "Domed anti-reflective, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal". I've had the clock inside very tricky places of my Land Rover (funny things can brake in that vehicle) and the only way to get my arm free was to pull it out and have the chrystal scrape bare metal: No scratchs!

Many manufacturers claim their chrystals to be un-scratchable, Omega only says scratch-resistant!

MORE SATISFIED.
